When is Windows 7 end of life?
Earlier in the year, Microsoft added a notificartion in one of their updates to remind users about upgrading from Windows 7 by the 14h of January 2020.
How long will Windows 7 be supported?
After the end of life on January 14th 2020 there will be no more support from Microsoft after making a 10 year commiment to provide product support for Windows 7 when it was released in 2009.
What does end of life mean?
To simplify the answer to this question, Microsoft will no longer be releasing software updates or offering any technical assistance for the software. This will include vital updates including security, by not releasing security patches. Due to this, many Windows 7 machines will become a risk to any breaches that may occur. Making it much easier for cyber attacks.
What will happen to Windows 7 in 2020?
You will be able to continue using Windows 7 but with no support from Microsfot for the operating system. This will allow the software to be open to cyber attacks which can take vital personal information.
Can I still use Windows 7 after 2020?
You will still be able to use Windows 7 but after January 14th it is not advisable to do so. Microsoft themselves have issued this advice to Windows 7 users.
“After January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates and support for PCs with Windows 7. If you continue to use Windows 7 after support has ended, your PC will still work, but it may become more vulnerable to security risks.”
What should I do about Windows 7 end of life?
If you are using Windows 7 on a personal bases then you can simply upgrade to Windows 10. For businesses still using Windows 7, your IT support provider should have spoken to you already about this.
