5 Tips to Successfully Work From Home

As the world is continuing the fight agaisnt COVID-19 working from home has become a way of life for most.

Working from home sounds like an all round good idea. However, it comes with some negatives including work productivity  slows, impacting mental health due to isolation, pressure to keep up the same work load.

So here are a few tips to ensure that working from home can be successful for your work and also your mind.

Stay in touch with team communication apps

Going from seeing your co-workers every day to only seeing a few, if any at all, can be a shock to the system and take its effects on you.

It has been proven that having co-workers to bounce ideas of and talk to can boost productivity. That doesn’t have to stop while working from home, if not you should encourage it. With communication taking place via email, text message and most likely WhatsApp too, you can manage this with ease.

Work productivity can decrease working from home for multiple reasons, maybe you have kids at home, noisy neighbours or just can’t get into ‘work mode’. We would suggest that your business uses a dedicated team communication tool to allow your team to communicate with one another via messaging or video calls, allowing them to not only increase work flow but keeping them sane too!

Organise your day

Working from home can make it much harder to get into a working routine, an extra 5 minutes in bed wont hurt will it? Having a disorginised day can lead to frustrations and can impact your mood in return.

Making sure you take time out of your day to create some structure and organise your day will give you goals to focus on. Giving yourself specific times to achieve your daily goals by allows you to keep your mind stimulated and can be a real benefit to your mental wellbeing.

Apps like Monday and Trello are great ways to get you/your employees into a structure to work by.

Keep to your morning meeting

Morning meetings can be crucial to discuss the days tasks ahead and what can be done to improve on the day before. It is also a great way to bring the team together to bond socially.

Of course, communication can be done via email but there is no better way to keep this rythm going than to have video conference calls when you would normally have your morning meetings.

Take part in an online course

No, we don’t mean a training course! Keeping fit is crucial to keeping your mind healthy. Most people these days either commute to work via cycling, walking or running and even if they drive, most will have an hours gym session at lunch time.

As gyms arent open and you don’t need to commute to work then keeping yourself fit can seem like a difficult task. Luckily, we have YouTube supplying loads of free fitness videos to help keep us active.

Keep to your hours lunchbreak and jump onto a class on YouTube and get active. Not only will you feel better but it will break up your day.

Home office

Working from home can have a drastic impact on your work/home life balance. Normally this is much easier to do, you work at the office and have some downtime at home.

Setting up a dedicated work place at home can help you this. By allowing you to know you have one place to work from rather than on your sofa where you would normally be relaxing.
